Dementia and Alzheimer's

Dementia can profoundly impair memory by altering brain structure and function. To prevent or reverse these changes, neuroscientists study the way dementia impacts cells, molecules and neural circuits.  Some questions that are currently being examined include:

  • How does cardiovascular health influence Alzheimer’s disease?
  • How does dementia affect gene expression and neuronal plasticity?
  • Can memory loss be successfully treated in animal models of dementia?
